Well it’s the last week of January and I have one more photoshop photo edit to do, and inspired partially by the film ‘Man on Fire’ and a photoshopped image I’ve seen online of a person made to look like they’re on fire I decided to have a go!
First off, set up my photography studio using the black studio background. I decided to shoot this self portrait with a single flash set at it’s lowest setting to create a strong dramatic effect, unfortunately this gave me too much contrast between my left and right side; so I softened the shadows by using a reflector to bounce a bit of fill from the flash into the shadows.
Second, I needed to trawl my old photos for pictures of fire, flames, cracked surfaces and anything else with a rough and gnarly textures I could use to photoshop and edit into this dramatic self portrait.
Then several hours of work in photoshop with about 20 layers of textures and flames added to the cracks I had created in my skin and it’s done… I ran the finished image through a quick fake HDR look effect and I quite like the extra grittiness of it, but I’ve put up both here so let me know which you like best.
