This is week 19 of my 52 week challenge, I was photographing a young, very talented dancer, this week and I just had to play with the images. She was performing lots of jumps and moving around the studio and moving so quickly it was difficult to keep up with her. This image was captured when she was jumping on a trampoline, I love the pose and the power and movement in the whole image, I decided to photoshop the image to emphasise that feeling of power which she gave off. I started by removing the white background and replaced that with a straight black background. I then added swirls of light around her arms, legs, feet and torso. I then added a splash of light to emphasise the explosiveness of the power in the image. The finishing touches was to allow some of the light to burn onto her skin and make it look as if she was in the glow of the lights.
This is a great fashion portrait of a beautiful dancer, the style of photo would work well for any dance studio or dance academy wanting to show off their activities and capture the dynamism of modern dance. The use of the photograph could be either commercial, event based or personal. Commercial photography like this would usually take place at the dance studio itself, as that is where the models/dancers would feel most comfortable, as well as being surrounded by all the equipment they are used to using. These types of photographs are also useful as event photos, either before to promote the event, or after to show off the work achieved. This photograph, however, was taken in our normal family studio, with the model bringing in her own trampoline and outfit and if I may say so myself, I think the result is stunning!
