This month’s challenge for my 52 week challenge: Depth of Field…and my thoughts were…time is a field! This is my first time lapse video, showing the bouldering wall being set by Kris Zuraw at K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley between 9am and 4:40pm (the 7hrs 40mins it took to strip and set the wall is seen in just about 1min 30secs) I’ll call it ‘Time Compression’

The setup for this was relatively simple, although the lighting situation was a little tricky and I although I wanted initially to fix the camera settings to manual I realised that with the changing light over the course of the day I’d have ended up with some very over-exposed and some under-exposed photos. So instead I fixed the aperture at F5.6 which gave me a suitable depth of field and speed for shooting in the morning light, and then left the camera to choose it’s own speed depending on the light, but it seems to have averaged at about 1/30th of a second for most of the photos.

All in all I’m quite happy with the result, this would be suitable for location photography, and event photography where you’re wanting to give the feel for a whole day’s worth of activity over a short period of time.

I’d love to hear your comments, either below on on my facebook page.
